Building a Company—and the Network to Power It

Matrisome Bio is developing a targeted therapy platform that's harnessing the extracellular matrix for the treatment of advanced stage metastatic cancer by leveraging a new class of targets called the extracellular matrix, or collectively, the matrisome. With a diverse team of founders and investors, they're developing first in class and best in class matrix targeted therapies to support our mission of improving the lives of patients with advanced stage metastatic disease.

Challenge

When Noor Jailkhani stepped out of academia to launch Matrisome Bio in 2023, she found herself standing at the edge of a vast, difficult terrain. As a first-time founder and CEO, she carried promising research with tremendous translational potential—but the path from laboratory discovery to life-saving therapy wasn't clearly marked.

The science was solid. The mission was clear. But the "how" of building a biotech company from scratch remained a puzzle with many missing pieces. Noor needed to build more than just a company; she needed to construct an entire network of entrepreneurial connections, investor relationships, and operational know-how.

For a company beginning as essentially a one-woman operation, the transition from academic researcher to biotech leader required wisdom that typically only comes from experience. Noor needed guides who had walked this path before—fellow founders who could share insights, potential investors who could provide not just capital but strategic vision, and operational support to help Matrisome grow beyond its founding vision.

Solution

At LabCentral, Matrisome found not just lab space but a launchpad for building their crucial network. Through everything from casual coffee chats to structured startup programming, Noor and her growing team seized every opportunity to learn and connect.

The results came quickly. Within months of joining LabCentral, Matrisome won the coveted Novo Nordisk Golden Ticket—a $50,000 boost that came with something even more valuable: direct access to Novo Nordisk's extensive expert network. This win exemplified how LabCentral's ecosystem, where biopharma giants and first-time founders share the same space, created shortcuts in Matrisome's journey from academic concept to commercial venture.

Science

“I think what's really amazing about LabCentral is the innovation ecosystem. When we chose LabCentral as the incubator to build our company, we were attracted by the fact that it is a premier biotech incubator. It has amazing infrastructure. It has a lot of good instruments.

Business

“I don’t think we quite realized the value of the LabCentral ecosystem. But now that we’re building a team here, LabCentral gives us access to alot of early seed startups. So, reaching out to other people in the ecosystem are walking that path with you and learning from their experiences, that's been incredibly helpful for us.”
