The word palingenesis comes from pálin, meaning 'again,' and génesis, meaning 'birth.' Eva Zasloff, an artist and family physician who focuses her practice on the transformational biology of the postpartum mother and the newborn baby, makes work that plays with the notion of shape-shifting and new seasons.

The first breath of a newborn signals the heart to redirect its flow to completely new passageways, just as a certain series of weather patterns signals the trees to redirect their sap upward to activate the buds at the branches. We are like the plants and bugs — our parts change through signaling within our own bodies, between bodies, and from so many factors yet to be discovered. This wonder keeps us making profound scientific discoveries.
