Here's how a recent intensive unfolded:

Week 1: Building Your Lab Foundation

  • Welcome & orientation (biotech incubator tour, scientific method overview)
  • Core lab skills (pipetting, dilution techniques, biosafety)
  • Science meets medicine (human systems, clinical simulations)
  • ELISA lab day (hands-on experiment, professional plate reader analysis)
  • Data & communication (turning results into conclusions, presentation prep)

Week 2: Molecular Biology & Presenting Your Science

  • DNA & PCR (structure, primer design, bioinformatics tools)
  • Running qPCR & gel electrophoresis (visualizing DNA, interpreting results)
  • Scientific communication (reading papers, presentation coaching)
  • Presentation day (real biotech professionals as audience)

Biotech Blend X, part of LabCentral's Pathway Programs, is a hands-on phase where you build real skills and get concrete about your biotech future.

  • For K-12 students who engaged with What the Heck is Biotech?® and want to go deeper, Biotech Blend X builds competencies and career clarity.
  • For higher ed students in partner institutions, it can be embedded into your curriculum (as a capstone, elective, or integrated course) OR offered as a standalone intensive, then you return to your regular studies with deeper expertise.
  • For workforce participants, it's structured upskilling that builds toward continued learning or career exploration.
